AVATAR PROJECT
For my graduation internship, I got the opportunity to work on the Avatar Project from MasterMinds that is part of MindLabs and works together with the Fontys Lectorate. The overall aim of the MasterMinds Avatar Project is to develop a chatbot to assess the emotional/well-being of primary school children using an AI avatar.Â
My assignment aimed to design and develop a method to motivate children to use the chatbot by incorporating game elements, focusing on customising an avatar.

LOG IN SCREEN
To enter the chatbot, the user has to log in because every conversation is privately stored. We wanted to figure out if a different logging in method would be prefered over the traditional logging in method. So, I made two prototypes.
After testing with the target audience, the result was that they preferred the traditional logging in methode more. So, in the final result, I implemented this method.

AVATARS
VECTOR PACKS
For the avatars, we found some avatar packs that would fit the chatbot. I interviewed the target group and asked which avatar style they liked more. With the result , we decided to proceed with three avatar styles: robots, animals and humans.
CUSTOMISATION OPTIONS
Each avatar pack has different options for customisation. Robots can change their parts, animals can be switched with other animals and the humans can have different attributes.
TALKING ANIMATION
Because it is a chatbot, a talking avatar would make the experience more engaging. So, I added different mouth positions for different sounds and arranged them for the sprite animations.
On the right you can also see that the arms have animations when the avatar is thinking, talking and idling.

PROTOTYPES
I tested both prototypes with the target audience. The result of this test was that they liked to use the item list over the carousel. With this result, I made a final version that was ready to be used. This final result can be found below.
